Mapping: a first at the SIHH for IWC Schaffhausen

At the Salon lnternational de la Haute Horlo- gerie (SIHH), IWC Schaffhausen showcased on its stand a giant model of its Portuguese watch. The timepiece, more than 1.8 metres tall, was rendered by projection mapping, a technique mastered by specialists of the firm Dietlin. Mapping is a video projection technique applied to a three-dimensional object. Depending on the shape of the latter, sev- eral projectors are required to cover all sur- faces. In the case of IWC, three invisible projectors were placed in the stand to cover every facet of the watch: to left and right for the sides, and facing for the dial. Power- ful software then synchronized the images, allowing them to be projected simultane- ously. Animations and transitions were cre- ated, and the visible watches all showed correct real-time indications. It is the first time that Dietlin has installed such a system in the centre of a space with ambient lighting. Le mapping: une première au SlHH pour IWC Schaffhausen

Lors du Salon international de la haute hor- logerie (SlHH). IWC Schaffhausen présentait au centre de son stand une montre géante de son modèle Portugaise. Ce garde-temps, de plus de 1.8 mètre de hauteur, était animé par la technique du mapping, maîtrisée par les artisans de la maison Dietlin. Le mapping est une technique de projection vidéo sur un objet tridimensionnel. Selon la forme de ce dernier, plusieurs projecteurs sont nécessaires pour couvrir toutes les faces. Dans le cas d'IWC, trois projecteurs invisibles ont été placés dans le stand afin de couvrir toutes les facettes de la montre. A gauche et à droite pour les côtés et en face pour le cadran. De puissants logiciels ont ensuite synchronisé les images entre elles pour les projeter au même instant. Des animations et transitions ont été créées et les montres visibles étaient toutes à l'heure/date en temps réel. C'est la première fois que la maison Diet- lin installait un tel système au milieu d'un espace avec une lumière environnante.
